Do you know what a wren is? If you said it's a bird, you're correct! Mr. and Mrs. Wrenolds, who are wrens, have returned to Elm Tree Cottage. Mr. Wrenolds performs his annual ritual of finding seven prospective residences from which Mrs. Wrenolds will choose. For the past several years, they have lived in the tulip tree, but due to winter ice storms, part of it is gone. Grandma Wrenolds wants to try the oak tree, but Mrs. Wrenolds decides to go back to the tulip tree. They meet all their old friends from the cottage yard, Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, Axel B. Jaymes, Tony and Mary Hummingway, Alfred Ousley, and Sir Al Cardin. Will the tulip tree prove satisfactory when the Wrenolds' two children, Jake and Jackie, come along? And what will they all do when a tornado happens through? Many early readers intended for young children have fairly predictable stories. However, this bright and cheerful book is a delightful change. Youngsters will be fascinated by Joanna Cook's easy-to-read tale and colorful drawings, in which are also embedded interesting little tidbits of information about the characteristics and habits of the various kinds of birds pictured, including wrens, robins, blue jays, hummingbirds, blackbirds, and cardinals. The author says that The Wrenolds of Elm Tree Cottage "is the first book in a series of whimsical tales of a bird community that also blends aviary facts." Bird lovers will especially enjoy it, but I highly recommend it to everyone and look forward to the sequels.

The Wrenolds of Elm Tree Cottage Joanna Cook 9781936352579 Books Reviews
"The Wrenolds of Elm Tree Cottage" is an adorable children's book. It's totally different than any of the other early readers' we've picked up. Not only is it written in such an imaginative way, but it provides facts about birds, which I love as an educational tool for my son. Every bird is relatable and comparable in some way to someone you've known or encountered in life. I definitely recommend this book to all parents. It's a great bed-time story with a great lesson. We can't wait to read more from this new series.
The Wrenolds want to make a home in their familiar tulip tree, but a harsh winter left a large hole in what was once their home. But Mrs. Wrenolds loves the old tree and wants to raise her little ones there. They would soon be arriving. Despite what grandmother had to say, they were going to stay.
Once settled in they called on old friends and reconnected. It wasn't long until little Jack and Jackie arrived. They grew and made friends with the other birds in the community. It was soon discovered that Jackie had no interest in learning to fly. Jack tried everything to get her to flap her little wings and sail.
A rain storm was building and bad weather was headed right for the tulip tree. The storm could tear their wonderful community apart. Will the Wrenolds survive the storm? Will little Jackie ever learn to fly? You will have to get this wonderful book to see if it has a happy ending?
